Logging in with my Jake Account

Hi guys, first of all I'd like to say thanks for the great products and I think it's good that you've opened a place where we can discuss, learn, give feedback etc.

The (literally) first thing I noticed, was that I could sign up with my social accounts, but not with my Jake account. Although my browser remembers my log-ins for me anyways, I still think it's a lot to have 2 Jake Accounts.

Is it an idea to add the possibility of logging in with the Jake (website) account?

I noticed the same, but I used a small workaround. I created a new account signing up for this forum (Talk Jake), using the exact same information as I used for my Jake (website) account. Still two accounts, but just one username + password.

Genius! Although it might still be useful for the guys at Jake to have the accounts linked, maybe.

Hi Patrick, glad you like it! Good question, that would indeed be better, for you as well as for us: Fewer accounts, no additional sign up required, and we would be able to link Talk with Jake and be of better service to you.

Sadly, the forum that we're using (Discourse) makes us choose. If we'd choose for the Jake Account sign up, that would be the only way to sign up. We want Talk to be as open as possible, so that just wouldn't do.

@Miika's workaround is pretty nifty though.

I would definitely prefer to sign in with my Jake account as well. Although it's not a real problem because I keep most of my accounts logged in any way, it's annoying to have different accounts. Especially when I clear my browser history, it's always a struggle to think of all my usernames

Edit: and it's often hard to still get the Mayor username

(Off-topic) Consider unchecking the *passwords or *form data when you clear your browser history.

Or use your browser's private browse option when you don't want your history saved.

@Frank_Official: Can't you just implement an OAuth2 login from the main site? See https://meta.discourse.org/t/login-to-discourse-with-custom-oauth2-provider/14717/3 for details on this. It's pretty simple, shouldn't take a reasonably skilled person more than an afternoon to set up correctly.
