Hi @mjh, welcome! I'm sorry to hear you've just had to endure that. There are some things you can do to lower the risk of a gout attack. Here are the most important steps you can take to either increase the excretion of uric acid or to decrease your consumption of purines:
The first is to limit your alcohol consumption (all), especially beer. Lose weight until you've reached your recommended weight. And ultimately, always drink enough water. About 2-3 litres per day not counting the water in Jake itself.
Only about a third of the uric acid comes from the breakdown of purines that come from your diet. In this regard, it may help to avoid the high purine foods mentioned in the UKGoutSociety .pdf you linked above.
